While some japanese and korean versions say that the rabbit on the moon is pounding ingredients for rice cakes. Mayan people worshiped Ixchel, goddess of the moon, childbirth and weaving. Her special companion was a rabbit. In some parts of the world the rabbit is an ancient symbol of spring.
